Stiftelsens formål er å yte økonomisk støtte for sjømannsstanden, til beste for skips- farten og sjøfartshistorien i sin alminnelighet herunder institusjoner som arbeider for å bevare Porsgrunns og distriktets sjøfartstradisjoner. En forholdsmessig andel (inntil 15%) av stiftelsens midler skal deles ut til yngre studenter hjemmehørende i Porsgrunn, og som tar økonomisk-administrativ utdanning på universitetsnivå.
