statistikken skal i sampsill med forskningsvirksomheten, gi et viktig
bidrag til å overvåke og analysere tilstand og utvikling i økonomiske
og sosiale forhold samt ressurs- og miljøforhold. Statistikken skal
bidra til å dekke almenhetens, næringslivets og myndighetenes behov
for kunnskap om samfunnets struktur og utvikling.
