Formålet med stiftelsen er å aktivt jobbe for å fremme «Sykehushunder»
til å bli et naturlig tilbud til pasienter ved norske sykehus og
tilstøtende virksomheter. Sykehushunder skal være et positivt bidrag
til pasienter under behandlingsperioden. Målsettingen er å spre glede,
oppmuntring og skape positive øyeblikk sammen med hund. Sykehushunder
med hundeførere må gjennomgå og bestå eget godkjenningsprogram for å
oppnå godkjennelsesstatus som sykehushund. Godkjennelsesstatus gis av
Stiftelsen Sykehushunder.
