Rådet er et responsum- og tvisteløsningsorgan for bygge-, anleggs og eiendomsnæringen. BFJR behandler saker fra ulike deler av bygge- og anleggsnæringen. Tradisjonelt har de fleste av tvistene stått mellom entreprenør og byggherre, eller mellom hovedentreprenør og underentreprenør.
